The powerful Mizuno Wave Mujin 4 is the proposal from the japanese brand for long offroad distances. Plenty of cushioning, heavier than road premium shoes and featuring superb stability, is a great choice for ultra marathons. Feedback has been positive regarding both mid and outsole with excellent performance so only upper has been changed to improve the product and justify typical price increase. As expected, there is a Gore-Tex® (GTX) edition available for extreme weather conditions.
Major change compared to its predecessor Wave Mujin 3 takes place in revamped upper with cleaner rear area and sewed reinforcements in the forefoot instead fused ones to provide a more rugged and consistent structure. Internal strips Dynamotion Fit™ remain wrapping the foot featuring secure transition and robust toe bumper provides good protection against external elements like debris and brush.
The impressive midsole in Wave Mujin 4 keeps basic construction with specific rock plate (ESS) in the forefoot (similar as in more agile Wave Hayate 3) to prevent stone bruising. Midsole keeps innovative U4icX™ layer on top for softer sock absorption and great comfort targeting heel strikers. Rest of midsole is made of full length AP+ and concave Wave™ in the rear side featuring reliable and abundant cushioning. No changes as well in outsole which has been built in collaboration with renowned manufacturer Michelin, taking advantage of its experience in off-road tyres (no Xtuds anymore) with specific rubber depending on the area for great traction and durability. Xta Groove in midfoot provides extra flexibility for uneven ground adaptation.
