The brand new Brooks Ricochet is another example of the interesting renovation plan from the american brand that consist in premium lineup based on top Fit Knit and innovative DNA AMP foam in midsole first premiered in its bigger sibling Levitate 2. Mentioned approach has at least two clear risks: first one is the heavy retail price because of finest material and the other one is to put current Ricochet in direct competition with one of the most iconic running shoe from Brooks, the popular Ghost 11. Time will tell.
There is no predecessor for current Brooks Ricochet and therefore no chance to highlight what has changed although mentioned Levitate 2 can be taken as reference. Upper is based as well on Fit Knit mesh using bootie construction which provides snug fit and good breathability. One interesting point is the heel collar area where not only last eyelet has been moved to external band surrounding the heel for custom fit but also padding offers extra protection to Achilles, solution most probably inspired by "S-Curve" design from Adidas which is already present in its rival Adidas Solar Glide. Typical Brooks logo is available on both sides and printed using reflective paint to improve visibility under poor light conditions.
Midsole in Brooks Ricochet is not only made of one full-length piece of plush DNA AMP but adds a layer of more rigid BioMoGo DNA to improve response although feedback from unbiased runners is mandatory to verify it. It seems Brooks is trying with different combinations (there is another foam DNA LOFT used in flagship Glycerin 16) but did not find perfect blend yet. Outsole configuration promotes quicker response with arrowhead design in forefoot plenty of robust HPR+ rubber to increase durability.
